How to find A Supervisor and A University for PhD?

I finally have the time to write on this one... very very sorry for the time delay... had just came back from a very interesting course that had just ended this evening.. will talk on that one in another topic...

About finding supervisor...

1. Search through for Universities that does research area you are interested in.
2. Then, look for potential supervisors in it.

Seems simple eh? Nope, not really...
The thing is, the process of doing it, actually makes it a bit tougher, not hard... but.. a little bit tougher...

3. When you have found someone, that might be your potential supervisor, then, you might have to approach that person, depends on which way you think you would be more confident of doing, email or phone call. I myself, personally would prefer email.

will cont after my dinner....

Hey there!

Usually, by looking at their publications would tell about how good they are in the area. Have a read through some of their publications... you can get some idea on the person. And yes, recommendations would definitely help your judgment further.

Its very hard to say whether to choose one having more experience in supervising or one with lots of publications.. however, having to say that, I've just attended a very interesting course, and the main objective was to help us in managing our supervisors...

Can you believe that? Its not your supervisor whom actually have to manage you.. but, its how you being able to manage them. The better you manage them, the more you will gain from them. Its true in a way.. they are actually pretty busy themselves... so.. try this method.. and I'm sure.. no matter how good or bad a SV is, if you are able to manage them wisely.. you will succeed in the end...

So, to summaries it all, we have to manage our relationship with our supervisor.. in order to gain the best out of them...

Really hope this helps...

Hi Anonymous!

Thanks for replying! About writing papers? We just started doing it.. and just had a meeting with my SVs, and yes, we did discuss on the conferences to go, and how to go about writing a paper for the conferences... So, at the moment, I need to prepare a writing plan for this and present to them next week tuesday.

Anyhow, don't worry about supervisors.. i'm sure you'll get a good one too! No matter who your supervisors are, we just have to be very very positive towards it and make the best out of it!

Really hope that all will be fine with you and wishing you the best of luck!
